Stylishly called
Vizag, the port city of Visakhapatnam has now
developed into a tourism paradise. Vizag is also one
of those few tourist destinations that receive a
number of foreign tourists. The city lies on the
eastern coast of India in the southern state of
Andhra Pradesh. Vizagis also very popular for its

Secunderabad-Howrah railway route and therefore, all
the important trains to the southern region pass

The Vizag Beaches
The beaches of Vizag enthralls the tourists and

under the cool shade of a tree and reading a book
are the favourite pastime of many. Equally thrilling

the wide array of beaches in Vizag, Ramakrishna
beach and Lawson's Bay are the oveliest. Water
sports are also gaining popularity on the beaches.

The port at Vizag is another major tourist
attraction. The sight of anchored ships looks really
amazing. The Shipbuilding Yard The shipbuilding yard
of Vizag located at Gandhidham is a prime attraction
for the tourists. It happens to be the largest
shipyard of India. Cargo vessels, naval ships and
passenger ships, all are built here. This is a
distinctive feature of Visakapatnam which other
tourist destinations cannot boast of.
Kailasagiri
Park
Spread over an area of 50 acres, the park situated
in the picturesque Kailasa hill overlooking the sea
provides a panoramic sea view and an absolutely
serene atmosphere.
VUDA Park
The VUDA park has facilities like a musical
fountain, boating facility and a skating ring and is
a very big hit among tourists. Also are facilities
like pleasure rides on horses and camels.
Dolphin's Nose
A strange but popular tourist attraction, Dolphin's
Nose is a huge rock resembling the shape of a
dolphin on the beach.
Indira Gandhi Zoological Park
Covering a huge 450 acre area, this zoo has many
different species of animals and birds. There also
are a separate deer park and a crocodile park.

Mudasarlova
Mudasarlova is a valley surrounded by hills. 10 kms
from Vizag, it has a lake that supplies drinking
water to the city. It is also a popular picnic spot.
Simhachalam
Simhachalam is a popular centre for pilgrimage. 16
kilometers away from Visakhapatnam, Sri Varaha
Lakshminarasimha temple at Simhachalam is one of the
renowned and widely visited temples of Andhra
Pradesh.
Appikonda
Situated 18 kilometers from Visakhapatnam, Appikonda
has a popular Shiva temple. The major attraction of
the temple is a life size bull that has been carved
out of black stone. There are inscriptions in the
temple dating back to 12th century. A small fishing
centre till a few years back, the metamorphosis of
Vizag into a tourism and industrial hub has
surprised and pleased tourists.
