Calangute Beach
The Calangute Beach is the busiest beach in Goa which can be reached by a 45 minutes ride from the city of Panaji. Calangute, commonly known as the Queen of the beaches, got its name from koli-guti, meaning land of the fisherman. Earlier, it was a very peaceful village and was the favourite hideout of the Hippies in the 70's and 80's. The Beach is today a masterpiece in terms of beach pleasure and natural splendour around it. The Beach stretches about four miles all along the way and is filled with palm trees with pristine beauty coloured with the golden sand.
Beach Activities
The Beach has the pride of being one of the largest beaches in Goa with its steepy shelving sands which can accommodate a huge number of visitors in the carnival seasons. The sight of fisherman hauling their nets in the sea to catch fishes for selling in the evening markets or little fishing hooks tack under bamboo sun shakes are amazing. Travellers can always have the pleasure of fishing helped by the fishermen readily found on the Beach.
The Beach is also a perfect place for water sports that includes para sailing, water skiing, yatch sailing till the sun goes down. The atmosphere at the Beach is filled with fun and feast with the taste of the sea foods along with the local made fanny. Children are seen making sand castles and peoples lazying around the Beach. These are all a delight to the eyes.
