Goa is one lucky
state of India that enjoys pleasant climate all
throughout the year. There are no extremes in Goa
climate. In other words, there is no significant
rise during summers and no drastic fall during
winters. The weather basically remains sunny and
pleasant throughout the year. Goa is located in the
coastal Konkan region in the western ghats.
Summer in Goa sets in by mid-March and remains till
the end of June. Though strong heat wave conditions
are not encountered, the temperature may rise upto
40 degrees on some days in summer. The average daily
sunshine is 9 to 10 hours in summer. The breeze that
blows from the seaside continuously has a soothing
effect.
The period of monsoons in Goa is June-September. Goa
falls in the path of southwest monsoon. During the
monsoon season, 250cm to 300cm of rain can be
expected. It may be mentioned that just before the
onset of monsoons, the weather becomes very humid
due to cloudy skies. However, a pleasant weather
sets in at the end of monsoon season.
Winters in Goa are from late November to mid
February. During winters, the maximum temperature
remains around 11 degrees while the minimum
temperature falls to about 3 degrees at night. The
average daily sunshine during winters is 6 hours.
The number of tourists to Goa rise significantly as
the winter sets in.
It may be mentioned that as Goa depends entirely on
south western monsoons that brings rainfall during
four months of the year, the rest of the months
remain dry and do not experience any rainfall.
Pleasant weather
conditions is a major reason for emergence of Goa as
a tourism hotspot. Though the tourism season begins
from October onwards, Goa can actually be visited at
any time of the year.
