The Bharat Mandir supposed to be the oldest temple in Rishikesh. The temple's deity is a black stone Vishnu. Basant Panchami is the yearly spring festival here. Lakshmanjhula, named after the brother of Lord Rama is an old and famous footbridge here and temples line both sides of the river.
To the North of Rishikesh are spots for white-water rafting. Professional organizers provide equipment, tents and food. Besides the longer hauls on the Yatra route, there are shorter trek routes around Rishikesh.
Located in the foothills of the Himalayas, Rishikesh has a moderate climate for most part of the year. In the peak summer months though, temperatures do go beyond 40° C. Winters are pleasant, and occasionally nights can get chilly.
